Night sky photography: Attempt One

Tried my hand at night sky photography during this year's Perseids meteor shower. The viewing up on 35 was good, but apparently the light pollution was still too great. None of my shots were very impressive, but I did manage to catch one lone meteor. See it there behind the tree? Next time I'll have to drive way further out into the boonies and bring along a remote shutter trigger.

Panorama-Rama!

Even though I've been using Photoshop for years I only recently learned about the Photomerge feature. Naturally I got a little panorama happy and stitched together pictures from my recent NYC trip. I even pulled out pics from my New Zealand trip that were collecting digital dust waiting for me to someday manually stitch them. Here are my favorite images. They've been compressed quite a bit and there's probably some auto-blur weirdness going on, but zoomed out I'm quite impressed with the results.

Now Photoshop's new content-aware fill feature (see video in previous post) doesn't seem like such a huge technological leap. Here's a nice guide to making your own panoramas in Photoshop.

New York City Trip

Whether you love or hate NY there's no denying that it's an impressive city. So many people, buildings and history... I wish my first trip to the Big Apple had been longer so I could have taken more of it in. Nonetheless it was a great trip made possible by great friends.

Here's a small sample of pictures I took. I'm disappointed with the number of decent shots I got since I felt like I was snapping away the whole time. Just proves I need a helluva lot more practice with my camera.
